Adam Lambert shocked X Factor Australia audiences during one of his first appearances on the show's judging panel, joining a hopeful contestant on stage for a duet and collaboration of Queen's 'I Want To Break Free'.

21-year-old contestant Harley Vass first gave his solo performance of the Queen hit before Lambert jumped on stage to give a masterclass in how to really handle the track.

It was fellow judge Guy Sebastian who encouraged the duet, after not being bowled over immediately by Vass.

He said: "It's not that often than we get a huge Queen fan in a room with a Queen singer… So how would you like to do a little duet with Adam?"

Lambert's time on Australian screens as part of X Factor Australia comes in one of the singer's busiest years.

He's recently recorded scenes as Eddie in FOX's Rocky Horror Picture Show remake, broadcasting later this month, and earlier this year released his studio album 'The Original High'.

This week there have also been rumours of Lambert teaming up with British soul singer Sam Smith for a yet-to-be-announced collaboration.
