The music mogul has reportedly held two crisis meetings to discuss ways to boost ratings for the talent show, and one of the decisions he made was to install cameras in the finalists' shared house in the hope of capturing budding romances.

A source said: "Simon is convinced the reason people tune into 'Strictly' is the 'sex factor', with attractive dancers like Kristina Rihanoff, and the intrigue about the contestants and the professionals hooking up with each other."

Discussing the decision to bring cameras into the house, the source added: "The only thing off the table is drugs, obviously. They're hoping to capture a bit of bed hopping, like in the old days when everyone talked about Harry Styles and Cher Lloyd or Matt Cardle and one of the stylists."

Simon has also persuaded Brian Friedman to return as creative director, and the choreographer has been auditioning "the UK's hottest dancers" for the show.

The source added to heat magazine: "They're after proper fire - not Stevi Ritchie mock-sexiness this time."

Show bosses are already looking ahead to the show's final and want to secure top level special guests, with Justin Bieber, Beyonce and Taylor Swift already approached to appear.
