Whether you're just starting out or have a wealth of experience, the tips should be helpful for everyone - so read on and apply the following tips to give yourself the best chance in the competitive world of presenting.

  1. Do a taster presenting course, this will help you decide if it's really something you want to do.
  2. Do you want to be a presenter for the right reasons? It's a hard industry to break into as a lot of people want to do it, so be sure you don't just want it for the glitz and glam!
  3. What is your USP? A USP is your Unique Selling Point. What makes you different to others?
  4. Which presenters can you see yourself being like? It's good to know who you aspire to be; research those presenters and see what path they took.
  5. Do you have any expertise? It is a lot easier to go into presenting if you have a particular skill. For me, property development has been my way in. Lots of presenters want to be entertainment presenters, which is great, but there are so many of those out there, you need to set yourself aside from the rest!
  6. There are a lot of online TV shows nowadays as well as lots more TV channels available to us, so put yourself out there and get seen. Shopping channels and online betting shows are always looking for new presenters, so go to those to get experience.
  7. Sign up to casting websites. There are a few different ones for presenting that post jobs every day, so keep an eye out!
  8. As hard as it is, you have to be prepared to be rejected! You need to be resilient in this business so you need to be able to pick yourself up and bounce back. There could be so many reasons why you may not be chosen for something. As long as you always do your best, that's all anyone can ask for.
  9. YouTube is a dream for up and coming presenters nowadays. Start up your own YouTube channel so you can begin to get a following and you never know, production companies may just be coming to you to put your show on air!
  10. Have some good ideas for original shows that you would like to present. Production companies need new show ideas, so if you have a good one, they may just take you on to present it too!
