Kat Moon visits Janine Butcher in prison

Charlie Brooks is to return to Eastenders in a new brief scene.

The actress - who plays Janine Butcher - was last seen in the soap on Christmas Day when she was arrested for the murder of her husband Michael Moon (Steve John Shepard), but she'll now make a brief return to the BBC One show as Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) prepares to pay her a visit in prison.

Kat will confront Janine at the jail after finding out that her cousin Stacey Branning (Lacey Turner) is living in London again under a new identity.

Stacey fled Britain over three years ago after Janine set her up for attempted murder, stabbing herself and blaming the Walford favourite for the crime.

Tensions between the pair will run high during their meeting and Kat will be left stunned when Janine - whose murder trial awaits - presents her with an ultimatum which is yet to be revealed.

Charlie, who has played the scheming daughter of Frank Butcher (Mike Reid) on and off for nearly 15 years, announced her departure from Albert Square last October, but the ultimate fate of her character has yet to be unveiled with bosses promising to add a dramatic final chapter to her exit.

The scenes between Kat and Janine will air on Monday, February 24.
