The character - played by Matt Di Angelo - shocked viewers of the BBC One soap when he was seen raping Queen Vic landlady Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) but Matt has revealed Dean will be punished for his actions.

Insisting viewers shouldn't feel too much sympathy towards the character following revelations about his father and daughter, Matt said: "We wanted to show that those people live on, and how it affects their life.

"Viewers will see him being punished on a daily basis."

However it won't be the punishment viewers would have hoped for as Dean - who has been a troubled character ever since arriving on the Square in 2006 - won't be getting the judicial punishment he deserves.

He added: "The vast majority of these people don't face judicial punishment and that's one thing 'EastEnders' really wanted to get across."

Instead, Matt has promised Dean will face a different kind of punishment for his terrible actions.

He told Inside Soap magazine: "There are other ways for Dean to be punished, like getting physically abused by Mick, or having his financial or personal life attacked."
