Danny Dyer and Kellie Bright as Mick and Linda Carter

Danny Dyer and Kellie Bright as Mick and Linda Carter

EastEnders actors Danny Dyer and Kellie Bright are to go head to head at the National Television Awards later this year.

Having both been shortlisted for the Serial Drama
Performance prize following their first year on the BBC One soap, they've both been highlighted for great acting skills.

The on-screen couple have had a tough year of storylines which saw Linda suffer a brutal rape at the hands of Mick's brother Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo), and their son Johnny (Sam Strike) coming out and coming to terms with being gay.

Also nominated are Emmerdale actress Verity Rushworth (Donna Windsor) and Hollyoaks' Nikki Sanderson (Maxine Minniver) in the category.

X Factor judges Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Simon Cowell are also battling it out in the TV Judge award category at the forthcoming ceremony, to be hosted by ITV's Dermot O'Leary.

Ant and Dec are on course to win the Entertainment Presenter award for the 14th time at the awards ceremony but they'll go up against Dermot himself as well as Bradley Walsh and Keith Lemon.

Meanwhile, Benedict Cumberbatch has been nominated for Best Drama Performance for Sherlock, and is hoping to beat Sarah Lancashire, Dame Maggie Smith and Sheridan Smith for their roles in Happy Valley, Downton Abbey and Cilla respectively.
