Critically acclaimed award-winning drama series Broadchurch is officially coming back for a second series in the New Year, with a confirmed premiere date of January 5, 9pm on ITV.

Written once more by Chris Chibnall, the show will focus on brand new events that follow those which transpired in the first series.

11-year-old Danny Latimer was murdered in the first series of Broadchurch, rocking the small Dorset town and changing it forever.

DI Alec Hardy (David Tennant) was put in charge of the case, much to the chagrin of local officer DS Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman), and their long-running investigation saw many people come under suspicion.

With many twists and turns, the revelation of the killer's identity had far-reaching consequences which would change the lives of the two detectives forever.

Story details for series two are being kept closely underwraps, but the new trailer may prove to show a glimpse of just what we could expect in January.

Along with regulars Tennant, Colman, Andrew Buchan, Jodie Whittaker and Arthur Darvill, the second series sees Charlotte Rampling, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Eve Myles and James D'Arcy join the cast.
