Following one of the most successful launches of last year, Ginsters’ award-winning Moroccan Vegetable Pasty will relaunch nationwide as vegan-friendly; replacing its vegetarian pasty predecessor.

Ginsters Vegan Pasty

Ginsters Vegan Pasty

This recipe reinvention marks Ginsters’ first step into the vegan market and reflects the enormous surge in popularity of veganism in the UK, which has taken the food industry by storm and caused 2019 to be dubbed ‘The Year of the Vegan’.

Inspired by Brits shift towards plant-based diets, supermarkets have introduced vegan aisles and chillers, offering everything from raw ingredients to ready meals. Now Ginsters is making sure a pasty suited to vegan-friendly and flexitarian diets is available nationwide.

Commenting on Ginsters’ first-ever vegan pasty, Managing Director Kieran Hemsworth said: ‘We were delighted by the popularity of our Moroccan Vegetable Pasty, which won a Gold Award at this year’s British Pie Awards. We’re really excited to be able to update our recipe into a vegan friendly edition, whilst maintaining that incredible flavour. Within our range of products, we aim to provide options to suit everyone’s taste preferences.

‘Our Moroccan Vegetable Pasty is filled with butternut squash, chickpeas and roasted red piquanté peppers, brought to life by a hint of harissa and sweetness of apricots and dates. The appetising spiciness is thanks to Moroccan chermoula paste, based on aromatic cumin, paprika and cayenne.

‘This a pasty for any time, any place. Great for lunch and on-the-go, but also delicious hot from the oven for a quick, tasty dinner. I like to accompany it with fruity couscous or spiced cauliflower – side dishes developed by our collaborating chef, Chris Eden. It’s all about fresh flavour and convenience.’ Chris’s recipes for these side dishes are below.

Ginsters Moroccan Pasties are made at Callington in east Cornwall from top quality ingredients, including wherever possible, vegetables grown at Hay Farm on the Rame Peninsular, just 15 miles from the bakery.   The tasty filling is encased in a light puff pastry and baked until golden.

Ginsters Moroccan Vegetable Pasties suitable for Vegans will be available from 20th May 2019, from Tesco, Asda and Morrisons, RRP £1.60.
