People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has sent hundreds of animal-themed colouring books to children who have been forced to leave their home countries and look for refuge in the UK and France.
They hope to educate children in a fun way
The current refugee crisis has affected millions of children from around the globe who have been made to vacate their homes and as a result- no longer receive an education.
Many arrive with no possessions to their name or very few. To make things worse they probably don't know the local language, cultural differences and the are of course suffering from the emotional issues that have arisen from their upheaval.
In an attempt to comfort these youngsters who have come to the UK and France, PETA have created educational activity books. They contain child-friendly facts about animals, pictures, puzzles and other activities to help their language skills as well as increase their awareness and respect for living beings, all in an accessible way.
Readers can learn exciting facts about the animal kingdom in Farsi, Arabic, English or French.
"PETA hopes this resource will provide children with a comforting and familiar activity, which will help them learn a new language while teaching them about the fascinating animals with whom we share our world", says PETA Director Mimi Bekhechi. "Children who are taught that all living beings have feelings grow up to be empathetic young people."
The colouring books, along with packs of coloured pencils, will be donated to refugee day centres across the UK and France and to the Calais "Jungle" camp. They can also be downloaded free of charge from PETA's website.
