Fish feel pain- Researchers studied the pain receptors in fish and they are very similar to that of mammals. In other words- if it would hurt you- it hurts them.

Fishing teaches kids to treat animals in the wrong way- They may assume it's ok to treat all animals in the same way. According to Domestic Violence Counsellor Deborah Kay Steinken- 'children who witness cruelty to animals experience psychological and emotional damage'.

Catch and release still harms the fish- Hooked fish still feel pain, even if they are released after they're captured and they experience the terror of being caught, which is extremely stressful for them.

Eating fish is not good for your health- Their flesh soaks up contaminants, which in the worst cases can lead to liver damage and nervous system disorders.

Fishing is bad for the environment- Wildlife rehabilitators have said that discarded fishing tackle is one of the biggest threats to aquatic animals, so even if you are not killing the fish- you may still be killing other wildlife as a result of your actions.

It's not a tradition- You may see it as a tradition but it's nothing other than torture for the fish.
