The actors met at a charades party held by Sorvino's stylist back in August 2003.

They got married in a private civil ceremony at the Santa Barbara California court house and followed this up by a hilltop ceremony in Capri, Italy.
The location was to honour Sorvino's decent as she is half Italian. This lucky lady also had her wedding gown designed by Giorgio Armani.
They now have four children together; daughters Mattea and Lucia and sons Johnny and Holden.
Although they have never starred in a film together, both Sorvino and Backus have appeared in an episode of Will and Grace, however not the same one- so their acting careers are like ships that pass in the night!
Backus has a tattoo of a wedding band with Sorvino's name on it- a marriage for life.
