Suvari began dating Italian-Canadian concert promoter Sestito in 2007, after they met at the Toronto International Film Festival.

They got engaged in July 2008 while they were on holiday in Jamaica.
The couple finally married on the 26th June 2012 in a private chapel in Rome- most of Sestito's family lives in Rome so it seemed like the natural choice.
On 13th January 2012, however, Suvari filed for divorce, citing 'irreconcilable difference's and revealed that they actually separated in November 2011, lasting only 1 year and six months together. Everything was wrapped up in October 2012.
