The record breaking trainer is a UK size 454!

Tesco have unveiled the world’s largest trainer, in support of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life 2009, the UK’s largest women only 5k fundraising event.

The massive trainer, which is a UK size 454 has taken three months and 840 man hours to build, will be touring the UK as part of the retailer’s biggest ever national fundraising initiative.

Funnily enough, if there were a person who would fit that sized shoe, they would be approximately 26.7m tall and their stride would be 11m long2. Madness!

The World’s Largest Trainer will be visiting stores around the UK, collecting signatures and donations from customers, staff, media and celebrities in support of Race for Life.

Ruth Girardet, Tesco Corporate Responsibility Director comments: "This is our biggest national fundraising initiative to date; an exciting and fun way to not only raise valuable extra funds for Cancer Research UK but also motivate and encourage participation from our customers and staff."

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life series encourages women of all ages and fitness levels, to simply walk, jog or run 5k to support and raise money for the charity.

In 2009, over 230 Race for Life events are taking place from the beginning of May, until the end of July at venues throughout the UK.
