Jade Dernbach

Jade Dernbach has become the first UK sports star to appear in PETA's iconic anti-fur campaign, with a brand-new ad. Showing off his amply tattooed arms and torso, England and Surrey County cricketer Dernbach stands next to the caption "Ink, Not Mink". The ad goes on to read, "Fur only looks good on its original owner. Be comfortable in your own skin".

"Tattoos are part of modern-day society, and I think the best way to drive awareness is to tap in to what people know and see", says Dernbach. "Some people are naive to the use of animal fur so it's important to raise awareness".

PETA wants consumers to know that every year, millions of foxes, minks and rabbits – and even cats and dogs – are beaten, electrocuted and strangled for their pelts. Many are skinned alive. For every piece of fur – whether it's a full-length coat or a bit of trim on a collar or cuff – animals suffered immensely. Designers such as Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein and Vivienne Westwood have all publicly sworn off fur.

Dernbach is currently ranked seventh in the world in T20 bowling and is looking forward to the Cricket World Cup, a competition in which England has enjoyed success in the past, in Bangladesh early next year.
