It sounds like you might have a reaction to pet hair. If this is the case- it might not be the best thing for your health to get a dog.

If your children are keen to have a dog, could you suggest they volunteer at a dog's home? They are always looking for dog walkers. You may need to accompany them if they are under a certain age, but it might be less likely to affect your potential allergies back at home.

Do you have a family member with a dog? Could they walk their dog with them or for them so they can still experience what it feels lie to look after and care for one?

There are dogs that are specially bred to be hypoallergenic, however it might be worth seeking one out first and spending some time with it to see if it causes you any issues and speak to an expert in that particular breed.

It may be something you want for your children; however, you have to also think of how it will affect you day to day. A dog is a huge responsibility and you might suffer if you make this decision based on a want rather than what is best for your health.

Is there another option for you and your family? Perhaps an animal you could keep outside like a rabbit or guinea pig so its hair doesn't come into the house?
