Sophie asks :

Hi Lucy,

I thought I was pregnant so I told someone I was. I had a period a few weeks later but don't know how to tell him that I'm not pregnant.

If you genuinely thought you were pregnant at the time, then this person should not hold it against you. False positives can occur with home testing kits if they are used incorrectly so it's possible that the pregnancy test gave the wrong result. It's better to be honest than tell a lie as the truth will soon become clear when there are no physical changes and it's probably appropriate to tell him sooner rather than later or he may start asking pregnancy related questions.

Did you notice any change in your period? Women do sometimes have vaginal bleeding doing pregnancy. Some women even say that they have intermittent bleeding that appears to be regular period to them, but this is different to menstruation.

I would suggest taking another test just to make sure that it is in fact your period and not vaginal bleeding in early pregnancy.
