Our Reply

Hi Roxanne,

People fall for famous people all the time because they have never met them. It’s tempting to create an idea of who they are and their personality because of who the media has portrayed them to be.

It could be that they embody a trait that you admire in a person- such as a family man- so it might be wise to try and look for someone who also has the same qualities.

Having a crush on  a personality plays to our deepest desires to have the same lifestyle as they do, have lots of money, places to go , people to see, things to do. Many people fantasize about the lifestyle of a celebrity and if they were with them how their life might look as a result.

Perhaps try to reduce the amount things you read about him and slowly detach you from him. Try to remember the personality that you have attributed to him is likely not at all true, but the result of media manipulation and you filling in the gaps for the information you don’t have to suit you- which is perfectly normal when you don’t have all the facts.

If you put your energy into finding someone who is obtainable then this might help you to refocus and gradually need to read about him and pay attention to him less.
