Amber asks :

Hi Lucy,

So there's this guy who I really like and spend a lot of time with. We invite each other to parties, walks, concerts and movies together, both as a group and one-on-one. I really like him and have done for a few months, ever since he and his girlfriend split up. I've tried to show my interest in him by flirting - tickling him, teasing him, etc. and he does the same to me - hiding things from me, putting his face up close to mine, trying to scare me. It seems like he should like me, but he does also seem to treat other people in a similar way - I think because he's a self-professed attention-seeker. Our mutual friend asked him a while ago about me and he got all defensive and said I was just a friend, but I doubt he would have been totally honest with him if he wasn't sure about my feelings. I think he's still a bit hung-up on his girlfriend cos whenever someone brings the subject of her up, he gets quite upset and wants to change the subject. I've fallen for him really hard and need to know if he likes me. What should I do?

Hi Amber,

There is a chance that he is not over his girlfriend and that is why the subject is quite sensitive. He might like you but it could be that it’s just not the right time for him now.

All of the signs would indicate that he could be attracted to you but if he acts the same way towards other people then there is no way of knowing how he feels unless you ask him. If you are honest with him then chances are he will treat you with the same respect and honesty back.

At least then you will know where you stand and can stop imagining you both together if he hasn’t got any romantic feelings for you or you can work on being a couple if he does. If he tells you that he likes you but he is not over his ex, it’s probably best to remain friends with him or you could end up getting hurt down the line if he decides to get back with her.
