Scientists have identified the optimal sex position for women to achieve orgasm

According to private gynaecology clinic New H Medical in New York, missionary - with a pillow placed below the woman’s pelvis - is the best position for female orgasms, as it stimulated clitoral blood flow.

Researchers conducted the study by recording a volunteer couple, who had sex in five different positions for 10 minutes.

Using an ultrasound scanner, the scientists examined which position resulted in the most clitoral blood flow.

In the study, which was published in ‘The Journal of Sexual Medicine’, leading research physician Dr. Kimberly Lovie wrote: “The purported benefits of various coital positions are described in numerous magazines, books, and public forums.

“However, there is little scientific research that evaluates the association between different coital positions and their ability to produce female orgasm.

“The objective was to compare clitoral blood flow before and after coitus in each of the five positions, after a standardised period of time.”

While missionary proved to be the best position, the group, found “rear entry” positions were the least effective in allowing the woman to achieve orgasm.

Dr. Lovie said: “The kneeling/rear entry position produces the least amount of direct clitoral contact, and resulted in a negligible increase in blood flow compared to the face-to-face positions.”
