Brian Dowling

Brian Dowling

What he’s remembered for:

Excitable Brian won over the viewers to take the Big Brother crown in 2001 with 69% of the public votes (against Helen and Dean). Before entering the house Irish born Brian worked as a cabin crew supervisor for Ryanair and only told his parents that he was gay two weeks before the show started.

By week two Brian was entertaining his fellow housemates as well as the viewers at home with his witty comments and bitchy persona. A prank war went on throughout the series between himself and Bubble and he struck up a close friendship with Narinda Kaur. When new housemate Josh entered the house Brian took an instant dislike to him because he wanted to be ‘the only gay’ in the house.

His life post Big Brother:

Brian has been working non-stop since winning and claims to be unaffected by fame. His most recent television venture has been as a contestant on TV3’s Celebrity Salon as well as filming a Big Brother special episode of Come Dine With Me. He does regular voice over work for Closer Magazine and 4Music and in May 2010 he hosted Miss Universe GB in Birmingham.

After winning the show Brian worked as a presenter for various television and radio shows including SM:tv, Brian’s Boyfriends, The Elle Style Awards, Celebrity Extra, Party in the Park, Ministry of Mayhem, Vernon Kay’s Radio Slot and The Mint. His stint on reality shows also didn’t end with Big Brother – Brian took part in Celebrity Hell’s Kitchen and Failte Towers (Irish reality programme).

Brian has been voted the best ever Big Brother winner by a number of different polls. In his personal life Brian is currently single but has recently been on a few dates with a new guy. His friendship with Narinda is still going strong with him taking the role as her youngest son’s Godfather.
