Welsh Tenor Debuts At Number One In Classical Charts With First Album

London, 28 March 2011: Tenor Wynne Evans is celebrating this week after shooting to Number One with his debut album ‘A Song In My Heart’ after just one week on general release.

This is an amazing achievement for the Welsh opera sensation, who has switched in the space of two months from the ‘Number One Most Irritating Advert’ to the Number One selling classical album.

Wynne Evans was signed to Warner Music earlier this year as part of a six-album deal. Also known under the guise of Gio Compario from the Go Compare adverts, the wonderful Wynne has conquered the classical charts with his debut Mario Lanza inspired album, which features some of the nation’s favourite arias such as the beautiful ‘Nessun Dorma’, ‘I’ll Walk With God’, ‘Ave Maria’ and an amazing rendition of ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ recorded in Welsh and English as a bonus track.

On gaining his first ever number one, Wynne Evans commented: “Wow – I can’t believe it. I’m so thrilled. I’ve been on the opera scene for over 15 years and this is definitely one of the most amazing moments of my career. Nothing can compare to this.”

BRIT Award-winning album producer, Nick Patrick added: “This is fantastic news and we’re so thrilled for Wynne. He has an incredible vocal ability and it’s great to see that people are finally recognising his talent. This is only just the start for him, long may it continue.”
