BORAT star Sacha Baron Cohen is to be honoured with the first Outstanding Achievement Award from the organisers of Hollywood's Israel Film Festival. The Jewish funnyman will be the guest of honour at the launch of the 2007 festival next week (beg12Mar07). Israel Film Festival director MEIR FENIGSTEIN says, "This was his year and we couldn't have chosen a better person to recognise." Sacha Baron Cohen shot to fame as Ali G 2000 securing interviews with Buzz Aldrin, David Beckham and Mohammed Al Fayed.In 2006 he released Borat! Cultural Learning of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Despite causing controversy in the Uk and America when released in the USA the film made $26.4 million from just 837 cinemas. It went on to gross $250 million worldwide and being top of the box office in 24 countries.The screenplay earned Sacha Baron Cohen a Golden Globe nomination for best actor and an Academy Award nomination for best origional screenplay.The 22nd Israel Film Festival will showcase more than 30 features, documentaries, TV dramas and series and will span two months in three cities Los Angeles, New York and Miami.
