Caro Emerald

Vintage-pop sensation Caro Emerald describes a whirlwind love affair as she wraps her lyrics around a starlit rum-tipsy piano-jive melody.

While eyes look forward to the next grand sound, Caro’s influences stretch right back to a post-war sound and aesthetic, crafting a world full of carefree players and glamorous women.

"Deleted Scenes From the Cutting Room Floor is so thoroughly joyous and cleverly thought out it’s almost impossible not to be seduced by it - a great album" - BBC Music

‘The UK release of ‘A night Like This’ was originally scheduled for release in February, but a routine check up found a polyp on Caro’s vocal cord and, having undergone surgery, Caro was forced to delay all touring and promotion for three months. Now, with Caro well on the way to recovery, the single will be released on May 16th.

‘Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor’ was released in Holland in January 2010, and soon became a countrywide smash.

Having broken a record set by Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ for most weeks spent at Number One (now an astonishing 30 weeks), and been awarded prestigious music accolade the Edison Award, the EBBA Award, the Popprijs Award and nominated for an MTV EMA, Caro’s sound has spread across dancehalls and airwaves across the continent.

As well as being Radio 2’s Album Of The Week, her first two UK singles ‘Back It Up’ and ‘Riviera Life’ were A-listed by Radio 2 - ‘Riviera Life’ staying on the playlist for over two months including during the Christmas period - and the entire album was playlisted by Radio 2 in January 2011.

The story of Caro Emerald is a true example of how word-of-mouth can lead to an overnight smash.

An impromptu performance of her first song ‘Back It Up’ on a local TV station in Holland was posted to youtube and led to an overwhelming clamour to hear more of this phenomenally exciting new singer.

Yet with only one song to her name, Caro and her producers David Schreurs, Jan van Wieringen and Vince Degiorgio set about crafting a whole album of original material inspired by her love of 40’s and 50’s film and music, making it accessible for a modern audience.

From swinging opener ‘That Man’ all the way through to the last track ‘The Lipstick On His Collar’, and taking in the jazzy, sassy ‘Stuck’, the laidback ‘Riviera Life’ and the ubiquitous, immediate ‘Back It Up’, Caro Emerald has swiftly proved herself a fantastic pop artist with an appealing aesthetic.
