January

On January 12 Ringo Starr released his 15th studio album called Y Not; this was the first album of his career that he primarily produced himself. The first track to be released off the album featured vocals from fellow Beatles star Paul McCartney.

February

Owl City popped into our charts in early February after releasing their debut single Fireflies at the end of January. It settled at number one in the UK charts and featured Relient K vocalist Matt Thiessen.

March

In March 2010, after the tragic death of Stephen Gately, Boyzone released a single which had been recorded before his death. ‘Gave it All Away’ featured vocals from the late Stephen Gately and was followed by an album entitled ‘Brother’ in his honour.
 
April

Diana Vickers showed the world that there is life after the X Factor whether you win or not when her debut single ‘Once’ topped the UK charts. Vickers followed this success with a number one album later in the year.

May

Roll Deep bagged their first UK number one on May 2010 with ‘Good Times’ after eight years in the spot light.

June

With the Football World Cup fast approaching K'naan, a Somali rapper’s track was remixed and chosen as the official Coca-Cola anthem of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The single ‘Wavin’ Flag’ was performed by K’naan in 86 different countries as part of the trophy tour.

July

July saw the comeback of Aussie legend Kylie Minogue. After battling with cancer the star released her 11th album, Aphrodite, this was the first time fans had heard from the star since her 2007 album, X.

August

After hearing the Blink 182 were reforming fans eagerly awaited confirmation of their return to the UK. The trio headlined at Leeds festival making it their only UK appearance of 2010.

September

 Despite not winning the X Factor Olly Murs stole the number one spot with his debut single ‘Please Don’t Let Me Go’. The chart amateur beat Katy Perry to the top spot.

October

Tinie tempah’s third single ‘Written in the Stars’ was released in October 2010. The song sold over 115,000 copies in the first week of sales, making it the third highest first week sales for a single that year.
 
November

After announcing the return of Robbie Williams, Take That made their first appearance as a five piece since they split in 1996 on the X Factor.

December

Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro were finally recognised in the mainstream music world when their song Many of Horror was chosen as the X Factor winners single.
