Bruce Springsteen might look like a hard as nails rock star, but he was overcome with joy after winning a golden globe award on Sunday night.

Why was a musician scooping awards at a film ceremony I hear you ask? Well the Born To Run hitmaker bagged himself the gong for Best Original Song for the title track to acclaimed movie The Wrestler at the glittering ceremony in Los Angeles.

Springsteen beat music heavyweights Peter Gabriel with Down To Earth from Wall-E, Jamie Cullum's title track from Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino, Miley Cyrus with I Thought I Lost You from Bolt, and Beyonce with Cadillac Records' Once In A Lifetime.

And the rocker was delighted to be even shortlisted in the same category as Hollywood legend Eastwood's acclaimed movie. He told the crowd: "This is the only time I'm going to be in competition with Clint Eastwood."

Springsteen also thanked the film's star Mickey Rourke and director Darren Aronofsky for inviting him to be part of the movie, adding, "Thanks for thinking of me."

Springsteen's triumph was one of two awards for The Wrestler, with Mickey Rourke also picking up the prize for Best Actor.
