The seventh instalment of the popular franchise has dominated the global box office for the last three weeks and has become the highest grossing film of the year as well as the highest grossing movie in the franchise.

It is the first time that a Fast & Furious movie has broken the $1 billion barrier - and that success only looks set to continue over the next few weeks.

The movie took a further $29 million in the U.S. over the weekend to hold off the challenge from comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, which opened at number two as Kevin James returned to the title role.

Unfriended was the second highest new entry as it opened at three, while Home slipped two places this week from two to number four. The Longest Ride rounded off the top five, slipped two places from last week's number three.

Comedy Get Hard fell out of the top five for the first time as the movie slipped from four to six this week. Monkey Kingdom was new at seven and was the third and final new entry inside the top ten.

Woman In Gold slipped just a single place as the movie sees Helen Mirren team up with Ryan Reynolds for the first time to tell the incredible true story of Maria Altmann and her fight to reclaim a painting that was stolen by the Nazis.

Insurgent was a three place faller this week as it dropped from six to nine. However, the movie has struggled at the global box office and has only grossed $255 million worldwide.

A movie that has not been struggling is Cinderella, however, it was the biggest faller this week - down from five to ten. The live action film from Kenneth Branagh has grossed over $457 million worldwide and is the third highest grossing film of the year so far, behind Fast & Furious 7 and Fifty Shades of Grey.
