Deadpool has hit the big screen this week and is so far living up to all of the excitement and hype that has surrounded it over the last few weeks.

It is the first time that we have seen Reynolds take on the role of Wade Wilson since X-Men Origins: Wolverine back in 2009 - which saw him star alongside Jackman.

While Wolverine does not make an appearance in the movie, the character is referenced throughout and Jackman was on board with all of the gags that are made at the character's expense.

Speaking to Yahoo! Movies, Reese said: "The great thing about it is that Hugh was a little bit like a guardian angel for us. He was very supportive of the movie; he was very supportive of us poking fun at Wolverine.

"He's a buddy of Ryan's, so every request we made of him - like, can we use your People's Sexiest Man Alive cover? - those were Hugh questions, they weren't studio questions. And Hugh, every single time, was like, 'Do it. I think that's hilarious.'"

Reese teamed up with Paul Wernick to pen the film's screenplay, which is based on the Deadpool comic character that was created by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld.

Reynolds leads an all-star cast as Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller, and Gina Carano are just some of the names that are on board. Tim Miller is making his feature film directorial debut with the project.

2016 is set to the year of the superhero movie and Deadpool is the first to hit the big screen. It is the eighth X-Men movie and it looks like there is a sequel already in the pipeline.

Earlier this week, Reynolds revealed that he is also keen to work on and star in an X-Force film.

Deadpool is out now.
