Chastain is set to star alongside Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron - who are back as The Huntsman and Ravenna - while Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is in the director's chair for the film.

Deadline revealed that Chastain was the latest big name to joined the cast list, but it is unknown who she will play in the film. The casting of Chastain comes after Emily Blunt boarded the project.

The British actress is set to play Ravenna's sister in the movie and is tipped to be the film's major villain.

Nicolas-Troyan is best known for his visual effects work - he was nominated for an Oscar for Snow White and the Huntsman - but he will make his directorial debut with the film.

Nicolas-Troyan took over the director's chair from Frank Darabont, who exited the project earlier this year.

As for Chastain, she has already enjoyed critical success in 2015 with A Most Violent Year, which saw her star alongside Oscar Isaac.

We will be seeing back on the big screen later this year with Guillermo del Toro's gothic horror film Crimson Peak, and she has just wrapped on The Martian.

The Martian will see her work with director Ridley Scott, while Kate Mara, Kristen Wiig, and Matt Damon are also on board.

Snow White and the Huntsman hit the big screen back in the summer of 2012, and went on to gross in excess of $396 million at the global box office.

The Huntsman is set for 22nd April 2016 release.
