Shailene Woodley says that it is 'incredibly smart' that Mary Jane Watson is no longer in The Amazing Spider Man 2.
The actress was set to take over the role of Mary Jane Watson in the Marc Webb directed movie. But, despite shooting some scenes, Watson will not be introduced in the third film.
Speaking to Empire the actress said: "She was only going to be in four scenes.
"I think it’s really incredibly smart that she’s not in it, looking back at it now because they’re introducing so many characters and MJ is such a vital character that it makes sense to hold off for future movies to introduce her."
The actress has been at Comic Con in San Diego to talk about her new film Divergent.
The movie sees Woodley team up with director Neil Burger for the future dystopian movie; Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney and Ashley Judd are also on the cast list.
She has also completed work on White Bird in a Blizzard, which is a big screen adaptation of the novel by Laura Kasischke.
Both The Amazing Spider Man 2 and Divergent are released next year.
