After the death of former Primal Scream guitarist Robert 'Throb' Young, Liam Gallagher has led a wave of tributes to the talent.

The band's publicist has confirmed news that the musician passed away, but no further information about the death have been released yet.

Young founded the band with secondary school friend Bobby Gillespie in Glasgow back in 1984.

He helped the rock group rise to success which culminated with iconic album 'Screamadelica' in 1991, going on to win the inaugural Mercury Prize.

However, 2006 saw Young leave the band to deal with "problems in his personal life", according to Gillespie.

Gallagher took to Twitter after hearing the news and posted: "RIP Robert Young AKA 'Throb'. Live Forever LG x (sic)"

Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs also tweeted: "RIP Throb. A true Rock n Roller. X (sic)" whilst Beady Eye guitarist Andy Bell said: "Rest In Peace Robert Young of @ScreamOfficial. That big power chord in Loaded is ringing out on the other side now. (sic)"
