Royworld

Royworld may have only been the support act to the Guillemots' massive hype but they were without a doubt the saviours of the night.Their sound is a very likeable mixture of the Killers without the camp and Coldplay on anti-depressants- combining punchy rock beats with calming keyboard melodies.Lead singer Rod Futrille has the kind of strong booming voice that could easily fill stadiums and the band certainly have that anthemic sound to pull off bigger venues than the intimate Academy. The chances are you've heard their latest single 'Dust' on the radio recently but perhaps you didn't realise who the band behind it were. The catchy chorus definitely sticks in your head and it's even more infectious when performed live. The title track from the new album 'Man In The Machine' draws you in with it's soft guitar intro but soon builds into another great rock track as Futrille's vocals compete with the increasingly booming baseline. The appearance of a slightly older audience mingling with the usual student indie lovers shows how Roy World are right stick with a more traditional rock sound and rebel against the current trend to experiment and push boudaries that don't neccesarily need to be pushed.Royworld may not be playing milk bottles and mixing classical cello scores with their guitar rifts but they are giving us great catchy songs that definitely have the staying power to see them move onto much bigger things.

'Dust' is out now. The album 'Man In The Machine' hits stores 2nd June.
