Hot Chip

Hot Chip

Hailed by many as being one of the most influential, innovative and completely unique record labels around, Moshi Moshi Records are celebrating the end of a glorious decade of musical japery by calling on a whole raft of their friends, new and old, one and all, animal or mineral, to throw a party on Saturday October 18th that people will never forget at London's most exciting new music venue, Matter. What's more, while you may have read about such stellar folk like Florence and the Machine, Tilly and the Wall and The Mae Shi (among many others) performing, there were also top secret headliners that were yet to be revealed – until now! That's right, as if all that wasn't enough, Hot Chip and Kate Nash will also be performing live toasting to the next decade of Moshi Moshi brilliance.Starting in 1998 as a pet project between three friends – Stephen Bass, Adrian Pike and Michael McClatchey – Moshi Moshi has slowly but steadily evolved into a label renowned worldwide for embracing the vanguard of new and exciting music, continually raising the bar and starting rabid fanbases without even seeming to try. Lest we forget, they were among the first to work with bands as varied as Bloc Party, Kathryn Williams and Metronomy. This birthday party will spotlight once again exactly what makes Moshi Moshi so special today. They'll mix critically acclaimed bands like effusive foot-tappers Tilly and the Wall, sun-strafed popstrels Slow Club, and offbeat punkers The Mae Shi with the chart busting, planet conquering likes of the mighty Hot Chip and honey-throated Kate Nash. An eclectic lineup to be sure, but somehow perfectly in keeping with Moshi Moshi's compellingly oddball approach to music. It also makes sense that this is happening as part of one of the most interesting events occurring in London right now. This is Not London is a series of club nights at matter whereby a seminal artist or label curates an entire night, gathering together their own crew of friends and peers to create a window into their distinctive and inimitable universe for one time only. Previous curators have included Simian Mobile Disco and Southern Fried Records, and are due to include James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem and Justice before the end of October.
