Teeth (2008) - based on the myth of “vagina dentate”, which states that a girl has teeth in her vagina that only the hero is not affected by.

When a Stranger Calls (1979 & 2006) - based on the well known legend “the babysitter and the man upstairs”

Gremlins (1984)- based on a Roald Dahl book that was influenced by World War II, where mechanical problems were blamed on the small monsters

Blair Witch (1999) - filmed in the Blackhills of Maryland, USA. It follows the local legend of The Blair Witch.

Bigfoot (1970) - based on a legendary creature named “Bigfoot” who several people claimed to have seen in mountain wilderness. Portions of the film were shot in these locations.

Candyman (1992) - based on a legend in originally from a desolate and poor community; involves saying the name of a maniac 5 times into a mirror.

Dead Man on Campus (1998) - based on the legend that if your room mate dies you will get straight A’s

Urban Legend (1998)- based on the premise that a killer is using the methods of death described in certain urban legends (such as the fatal mixing of cola and Pop Rocks) as a means to kill his victims.

House of 1000 Corpses (2003) - the film focuses on four college students traveling throughout rural America who become intrigued by a local legend regarding the mad scientist Dr. Satan

Bogeyman (2005) - based on the urban legend popularly believed in by children
