A new study has revealed that boozing makes men more likely to approach someone they consider to be attractive but does not make others seem more alluring.

Researchers at Stanford University in California asked 36 men in their 20s to assess photos of potential partners and choose how many they would like to meet.

The men rated them the same before and after drinking beer but were willing to meet more of them after they had consumed alcohol.

The experts suggest that drink might not alter perceptions but does give men a confidence boost and think that it could have implications for therapists and patients.

Dr. Molly Bowdring, who led the study, said: "People who drink alcohol may benefit by recognising that valued social motivations and intentions change when drinking in ways that may be appealing in the short term, but possibly harmful in the long term."
