Spotify boss Daniel Ek has joked about a non-existent loophole in the music firm's royalty structure.

Spotify has denied the rumour

It's recently been suggested that artists and Spotify subscribers could make around $1,200 a month simply by listening to a 30-second track on the platform - but Daniel has now denied the rumour.

The head of Spotify wrote on X: "If that were true, my own playlist would just be 'Daniel's 30-second Jam' on repeat!

"But seriously, that's not quite how our royalty system works. (sic)"

The suggestion stemmed from analysis by JP Morgan, which claimed that the royalty structure was easy to manipulate.

Spotify has also addressed the rumour.

The company said in a statement: "Contrary to what you might have heard, Spotify does not pay artist royalties according to a per-play or per-stream rate."
