Doctors in China have saved a man from losing his finger by attaching it to his stomach in the hope it would grow a new tip.

Wang Yongjun cut off the end of his middle digit with an electric saw and when medical staff saw the partially-severed finger they feared he may lose it unless they acted quickly.

So, doctors decided to grow a new tip on his stomach and attached the digit in the hope skin would form around it.

Dr Huang Xuesong - who said the operation was a complete success - explained "We had to make a quick decision or he could have lost his finger. We decided to cultivate a new fingertip on his stomach."

Wang will have a new tip when his digit is separated from his stomach within a month.
