The 47-year-old actor has James, 20, with ex-girlfriend Kim Bordenave as well as 14-year-old Henry with Alicja Bachleda-Curús, and although they haven't watched his new Apple+ series 'Sugar' - in which he stars as a private detective who investigates the disappearance of Olivia Siegel - he likened them to the review-aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.

He told US TV show 'Extra': “They haven’t seen it, but they’ll be able to watch it. They’re both at the stage in life they can pretty much watch whatever they want… A lot of the stuff that I've done, particularly with the ages that they were, they could never have a look at.

"We have our own little Rotten Tomatoes committee of two at home."

Asked if his sons were his "toughest critics", he replied: "Yeah! But they would be sensitive to my feelings."

Meanwhile,'The Banshees of Inisherin' star explained that when it comes to being a father, he believes the key to a good relationship with his kids is ensuring that they can come to him with any problem or issue and he will be there to help them.

He said: "You just want to… create an environment where they can come to you if they want to… if they need to share… It’s just making yourself available, that’s all."

Over the course of his career, Colin has played antagonists in films such as 'The Batman' and 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' and previously joked that his kids are bored of seeing him play the bad guy on screen.

Speaking on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show', he said: "They’re sick of me being a bad guy, which apparently, reading between the lines, leads me to believe that they think I’m OK
