A Pyrenean mountain dog called Ollie was found stranded on the very top of someone's home in Pontardawe, South Wales, while his owners were out shopping.

The South Wales Evening Post reported the pooch's neighbour, Julie Bowden, was the first person to notice the giant fluffy had escaped after her son heard noises and presumed it was a burglar.

However, Julie soon discovered the four-legged friend anxiously pacing up and down the slate roof and called for help.

She said: ''My son was upstairs in his bedroom and he came down to say he heard someone on the roof. I told him it was obviously birds - but when I went outside to look and saw that it was the dog from next door.

''He's a lovely dog with such a sweet nature but he does get out sometimes.

''They have an attic room like us and it must have climbed out the window and walked on to the roof. Our roof is made of slate so he was slipping and couldn't get back, in the end he made his way to the house next door to us, which is lower, and went down onto their roof.''

A group of fire fighters swiftly arrived and tried to coax him down with a slab of ham for one hour.
