Grandmother discovers five foot cannabis plant

A grandmother learned she had a five foot tall cannabis plant growing in her garden on the radio.

''It was only small at first, with only four leaves. But I watched it grow until it was as tall as me.''

Patricia Hewitson - who is a keen gardener - sent a photo of her prized plant to BBC Radio Devon's 'The Potting Shed' segment in a bid to identify the mystery plant that was exuding a ''sickly sweet pong'' and was shocked to be told she had in fact been growing the Class B drug marijuana.

However, Mrs. Hewitson has been assured she will not be prosecuted but was told it would be in her best interest to dispose of it.

She told the Mid Devon Gazette newspaper : ''It was only small at first, with only four leaves. But I watched it grow until it was as tall as me.''

''As it got bigger and bigger I got nervous because it was starting to look a bit suspicious so I decided to contact The Potting Shed for help.''
