A factory is being powered by ice cream.

Ben & Jerry's factory in Hellendoorn, Holland is using the by-products of their ice cream production to make more of the sweet treat, the Metro newspaper reports.

The Chunkinator is able to convert waste products like milk, syrup and bits of fruit into energy.

It has provided the factory with enough power to make 9 million litres of ice cream in the past year.

The head engineer Arjan Vloon said: ''The biodigester gives us the opportunity to take what was a waste product and turn it into a benefit for our business.''
