Toco, from Japan, spent thousands so he could experience being a canine.

Whilst being interviewed on German TV, the reporter pretended to be his owner and told children he "won't bite" if petted.

Karolina Kaminska told one youngster: "Don't be afraid. He won't bite."

Another child was "scared" of Toco.

The man dog then took a tumble and Karolina asked: "Be careful, are you good?"

He then got up and walked on.

Toco was apprehensive about "coming out" as a dog because he feared ridicule from his friends and loved ones.

He told The Mirror: "I rarely tell my friends because I am afraid they will think I am weird. My friends and family seemed very surprised to learn I had become an animal.

"Since childhood, I have had this unspecific fantasy of becoming an animal. I wonder whether it was a desire for transformation."

In another interview with The New York Post, he said of the trolls he’s faced: "I'm just sad that people can think that. I love animals and enjoy play-acting like a collie. This is my hobby, so I will carry on. It makes me happy and other people happy, too."
