The University of Wolverhampton has revealed how the "music frog" was recorded in India and makes a noise that is very similar to that of a duck quacking.

The amphibian has a unique call pattern made up of two to three notes which mimics the sounds made by a wild duck.

The species was found during searches close to the Namdapha Tiger Reserve last year and has been named after the Noa-Dihing river.

Expert Dr. Deepak Veerappan said: "Initially we first heard the call from a marsh near the Noa-Dihing river, which is quite similar to wild duck species, like 'quack... quack... quack', which we never heard before."

The find marks the third consecutive discovery of a new species of amphibian in the region in the space of a year and Dr. Veerappan says it underlines the importance of conserving habitats.
