The African serval known as Amiry was captured by dog wardens in January after being spotted in a tree in Cincinnati and was taken to a local animal rescue for further treatment.

The medical examiners treating the wild cat also discovered that it had been exposed to cocaine after testing the animal for narcotics exposure.

Servals are illegal in Ohio and the beast is now being moved to Cincinnati zoo for further treatment after his leg was broken during the rescue attempt.

Ray Anderson, community engagement manager at Cincinnati Animal Care (CAC), said: "We're extremely proud of the work done in this case by the dog wardens and medical staff are immensely appreciative to the Cincinnati zoo for getting Amiry the care he needs."

The wild cat's owner has been contacted and is cooperating with the investigation.
