Juan Vicente Perez Mora lived through two world wars and the COVID-19 pandemic but sadly "transcended into eternity" on Tuesday (02.04.24).

The Venezuelan was recognised as the oldest man alive by the Guinness World Records in May 2022 and put his extraordinary longevity down to drinking Colombian liquor.

Juan - who was born in 1909 and lived through the invention of both television and the internet - is survived by 11 children, 41 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

His passing was announced on social media by Freddy Bernal - the governor of his home state of Tachira.

Bernal posted on X: "Our dear Juan Vicente Perez Mora, today with deep sadness and pain we say goodbye to you, to that archetype of a man from Tachira, humble, hard-working, peaceful, enthusiastic about family and tradition.

"Together with my wife and children we had the pleasure and the pride of meeting him and sharing with his loved ones."
