Enheduanna was the first female to write

Enheduanna translates as ‘high priestess of the god’ and was the high priestess of the Moon God Nanna in the state of Ur. She is mostly known for being the first author and poet of either sex.  She was very devoted to the goddess Inanna which can be seen from the many pieces she scribed about her during her life. She also wrote a collection of hymns called ‘Sumerian Temple Hymns’. These are thought to be the first examples of a working theology. As well as being the first known woman to have written anything, she is also one of the first women in history, whose name is known.
