Subterfudge

Subterfudge

Subterfudge is a light-hearted story about a submissive (Ashley) whose Dominant live-in boyfriend asks her to learn to cook for him. She agrees, assuming it’s going to be easy, but then she finds herself up to her ears in failed cooking experiments. Stumbling into a lie, she begins passing off food she’s purchased as her own. Her Dom is a sweetheart, but we wonder if her sneakiness is going too far.

Please tell us about your light-bulb moment when you read the interview with Stephanie Meyer.

Well, she was saying that the story for “Twilight” came to her in a dream and I thought, “I have lots of great dreams. I should write one down.”

What was the first dream you wrote down?

It was a sexy dream about a woman visiting her new boyfriend’s tool shop. It was hot, and I’m sure that’s how I fell into writing erotic fiction.

Do you continue to do this now?

Actually I don’t. Since I married my husband, I sleep like a log and don’t remember my dreams very often.

Please tell us about the character of Ashley.

Ashley reminds me of sexy “Lucille Ball” type character. She’s bright and accomplished, but she gets herself into messes. Even when you know she’s doing something wrong, you still want to root for her because her heart is in the right place.

You have a large family so how do you juggle this with your writing?

Having lots of kiddos makes my mom job more demanding, but I’ve learned to set boundaries, and they respect my writing time fairly well. For me, running around being a mom is my full-time job, while writing it is more of a part-time job based purely on the number of hours I have to spend on each. I know one day I’ll have an empty nest and lots more time to write. This time while they’re young passes in the blink of an eye.

How much of an inspiration is your husband to your writing?

100%. He’s more romantic than I am, and when he reads my work he often gives me feedback that’s super helpful. I’m a blessed woman to have him, and without our real life love story I’m not sure I’d have enough imagination to write erotic romance.

You like to bake so what is your signature dish?

I make a delicious coffee cake that magically disappears within 24 hours. There’s also a lemonade cake I bake in the summertime, and although it’s not really baking, I make these chocolate rice crispy treats that are to die for!

What is next for you?

For 2014, I plan to release the next two books in my Daddy’s Girl Series as well as an erotic pirate romance trilogy. I’ve always loved historical fiction so it was lots of fun writing a historical story.
