Allow me to introduce myself.

My name is …… I am,

not I am that I am:

too existential; at worst

it hints of a god-like state

of mind. I am, have been

and will be many things

to myself and others;

god-like is not one of them,

too much pressure to perform.

So I am, greetings and salutations

to you; you are. There’s the link:

I am and You are. No more introduction

is required. Our identities, internal or external

are fluid; change with tide, phase of the moon

and whim. Happy, sad; morose or mad; witty

or dull. I am the nett product of tainted memories:

my own and others, half-read insufficiently-understood

books, conversations curtailed on my entry (that quick

guilty glance - what’s the big secret?), convenient

memory lapses. In the darkness, the dim light

of dawn (there will be light, understanding: that I believe)

I can be whoever I like. No one will know otherwise

(if they cared). Hello, I am; You are?
