The Other C Word

The Other C Word

In The Other C Word Marley is a tomboy who has a penchant for stylish shoes. She has a loving but quirky family, a supportive best friend, and a job she loves.  What more could a girl need? Then she meets Rick, the efficiency expert hired by her company.  She begins to question her life choices and if she can ever get past that other scary C-word…commitment.  It’s a carnal tale of modern day love with a few laughs along the way that will lead you to question how many consuming, captivating, and compelling C-words exist.

How much does being a hopeless romantic help writing what you do?

It helps a great deal. I sigh with all the small gestures that are the bricks of every love story.  There’s something beautiful about the human range of emotion where you can experience so much angst you’re in physical pain or that small tickle in your gut as the hero falls for the girl of his dreams.  It’s those moments I cherish as a reader, and try my best to capture in a story.

You work in finance by day, so what made you want to write by night?

I read a few stories that really hit me. I had a few loose ideas in my head. One day, I decided to actually try to put them all to paper. I started typing and my computer monitors been hot ever since (because I always have it on).

How did the title come about?

I didn’t know what the title would be until I was almost finished.  I was working with a few possibilities.  The C-word theme kept creeping up in the book so that was on my shortlist.  When I polled my beta readers, they all picked that one. One told me, it was sexy enough to let you know what kind of book you’d get, but also peaked the curiosity quotient.  Hopefully that’s the case.

Who are your favourite erotic romance reads?

I really love Alice Clayton’s, Wallbanger. I’m shocked and overjoyed that some reviewers have compared our style.  I think a good read needs to make you laugh, cry and swoon so I love to read books that have all those ingredients.

How do you find the energy to write after a day at work?

It’s difficult, but my kids are older so I write after work and on the weekends.  It was just supposed to be a hobby at first, but as I got closer to typing The End, I started dreaming of being published.  I’m thankful to Total-E-Bound for making that dream a reality and believing in my work.

Where did your inspiration for the book come from?

I find the funniest stories have elements of truth.  The first scene was already in my head.  Something similar happened to me.  I didn’t end up picking up the hottest man at the airport, but there was a case of mistaken identity that my family still laughs about today.  I thought it would make a great opening scene for Marley and Rick.  The rest started flowing from there.

To what extent do you think men are afraid of commitment like your character?

Marley is afraid. I was trying to create a fresh perspective on the typical standards.  She has her reasons, and it’s an internal struggle Marley begins to question as Rick entwines his way into her life.

What is next for you?

My next book, The Do-Over is coming out in October. I also have several works in progress that are in various stages. I want to keep writing and growing as author.
