G.R. Macallister opens up in an exclusive piece for Female First

To celebrate the release of her new fantasy novel, Scorpica, we asked author G.R. Macallister to let us in on five interesting facts all about her, that her readers may be interested in! Here's what she had to reveal...

1. I grew up in a small town of 800 people in rural Iowa, but after moving to the East Coast of the US for college I’ve lived only in big cities—Boston, Philadelphia, New York City, and Washington DC.

2. I drink only decaf coffee, but since I drink an 8-cup pot by myself on an average day, I’m probably ingesting the same amount of caffeine as a person who just drinks normal coffee in normal amounts.

3. Because I don’t always have big chunks of time to focus on writing, when I sit down to write, I play a “theme song” to get me into the right mindspace as fast as possible. Now that I’m writing a series, instead of choosing a single song, I’ve picked a whole album – What’s the Time Mr. Wolf? by indie rock standouts the Noisettes, which absolutely roars with fiery feminine energy. Don’t Give Up is always a great option for inspiration, though I’m also highly partial to Sister Rosetta (Capture the Spirit).

4. I was living in New York City when my kids were born, and because I waited longer than I should have to leave for the hospital, my son was born only 40 minutes after I arrived. Two years later when I was pregnant with my daughter, I swore I wouldn’t make the same mistake twice. Well, I was wrong. This time, the gap was only five minutes. (But I was certainly glad she waited until we got inside, and so was my Uber driver, Arkady.)

5. I write historical fiction under the name Greer Macallister and epic fantasy as G.R. Macallister. The R is for Rebel.
