I wish I didn't question why

the sun draws circles round the sky

I wish I didn't question when

moon's crescent shrinks then grows again

I wish I didn't know the reason

why walnuts shake the growing season

I wish I didn't ask the trees

why leaves depart on quiet breeze

I wish I didn't get to know

where angels live when loved ones go

I wish I didn't have to say

which bills we always aim to pay

I wish I didn't have to task

what subjects friends should always ask

I wish I didn't have a clue

about what aging bodies do

I wish I had a perfect life

avoiding pain deflecting strife

I wish I had a perfect heart

so I'd love the end as well the start

I wish I had a smarter soul

so I'd always have the Boatman's toll

I wish I didn't want to know

where people's souls are meant to go

I wish I knew what words were best

so my eraser's size would shrink far less.

I wish I hadn't so many plans

my life already fills both hands

I wish I'd listened for Gabriel's horn

so death might be far less forlorn

I hope we'll share a hundred years

so I can love you without tears....
